Today, August 22nd, marks eight years since I left my home in Budapest, Hungary and moved to Edinburgh. That hot summer morning, I embarked on a new chapter of my life filled with change and growth. Saying goodbye to Budapest was bittersweet. The city represented so many important memories – friendships, personal struggles, and profound moments of self-discovery. My friends there encouraged me to pursue my dreams of living a healthier, more fulfilling life abroad.
Their unwavering belief in me gave me the courage to leap into the unknown. My sister already lived in Edinburgh, so I never felt homesick. And whenever I return to Budapest, my friends welcome me as if no time has passed. Though our lives have changed over the years, our connection remains strong. I’m grateful for their understanding when my busy schedule prevents me from attending important events in Hungary. Who could have predicted that eight years after leaving my career as a lawyer in Hungary, I would start my private hypnotherapy practice? I also owe so much to the friends I’ve made in Edinburgh. They have helped shape my path in profound ways.
I’m a firm believer in the power of gratitude, as it can work like magic. As I train to become a meditation teacher as well, I find meditations on appreciation especially meaningful.
In my hypnotherapy practice, too, I help clients discover their strengths and resources so they can embrace the necessary changes to reach their goals. Our brains are wired to focus on potential dangers, so we must intentionally take time to recognise the good, and we can do this while having a Solution Focused conversation and hypnotic trance. Taking stock of existing skills and qualities could lay the groundwork for embracing new possibilities.
On this reflective anniversary, I feel nostalgic and hopeful about my future. Leaving Budapest was difficult but set me toward more meaningful work. I’m excited to see what changes the next eight years may bring!
